triKATHlete | v.1

the mermaid, the unicorn & the cyclops.

i encountered my first eating error. dont eat asparagus before a brick.

i made a delicious oriental cashew asparagus dish for dinner last night. it looked SO good, and i was SO hungry, i had a few bites before i left. whats the harm in that? well…

i got through my 30 min/7 mi ride, jummped off, ran inside, put my running shorts on, and starting running to my mother-in-laws to pick her up to finish my run with me. 3/4 of the way there, i felt like i was going to vomit. you know that sour, pucker-y feeling you get in the back of your jaw when you know your gonna be sick? yep, thats the one. so, we had to take a detour and we walked for about 45 min, briskly, so my tummy could remain calm.

so, lesson learned. if i’m hungry before exercise, i’ll stick to peanut butterĀ  or a banana.

no exercise today, were celebrating moms birthday today and i still have to make a cake!

we dropped tegan in the kids club and i headed for the pool. i only got 30 minutes in. there was an aquatics class and lap swimming isnt allowed during classes. stupid. so now i’m going to have to make sure i get there at 5 so i can get a hour in.

after that i just kinda moseyed around. all the weight machines have instructions posted on them and what muscle/groups it focused on. i tried 3 different ab machines (which were harder than i thought :)) i tried a leg press machine, VERY CAREFULLY (i injured my back in high school on one.) i did inner & outer thigh machines, hams & quads & GLUTES, and worked on my chicken wings. (the dangles under your arm that wave more than you do. or triceps.)

then upstairs, i did a stationary bike for 20 minutes and jumped on a treadmill for, like, 10 minutes, just to see what it felt like. i know its not the same as a real bike and real running, but it gave me an idea.

but today is the real thing! i’m going to bike for 30 minutes and since this is week 9 of couch to 5k, i’ll be running a full 3 miles!! :D

i guess theres really not too much to say. i’m kat, i have an almost 2 year old daughter and earlier this year, i began training for and running 5ks with my mom. april 6th, we ran a 5k that was part of a triathlon, and my dad got hooked (being an INSANE cyclist) and decided he wanted to do a triathlon and well, it was kind of a domino effect.

and to think, this all started out for simple fitness & health reasons…

i guess the purpose of this is simply:

i want to document my trial and errors, my work outs, how i felt, my progress. i want to look at this a year from now and 10 triathlons later and see where i started, howi finished and watch my times improve.

i will warn you, i am not very good at keeping up-to-date journals. i may not update for weeks or even months, but i’ll always end up here somehow.

i went to la fitness last night just to get into a pool and see how good (or bad :| ) it felt and it was suprisingly excellent! i only swam 15 minutes ( we had to pick up t) but my form felt good, my breathing was steady and i even got bilateral breathing. i’m going again tonight to get more laps in and to use some of the zillion weight machines they have.

oh! one more thing. why the mermaid, the unicorn and the cyclops?

well, mermaids swim, unicorn covers ground and to keep it in the mythical creatures, think cycle-ops. its a company that makes trainers. cute, huh? i thought so.
